Rated 'S' for Spooky

One of the biggest figures in the trip-hop scene, Massive Attack’s impressive ability to create floor shaking basslines, big beats, gnarly guitars, and fragile textural sounds all make sense together has been a huge inspiration. Their album Mezzanine (Portishead, 1998) has remained a pivotal moment for the music world, changing the scope for production and songwriting across the board. They have also featured and worked with many other accomplished artists to create haunting, memorable music. Some of my favourite songs come from this album alone, such as Black Milk, Dissolved Girl, and Teardrop (Portishead, 1998) - all of which still give me goosebumps when listening. I have long sought to capture the dark, melancholic, sometimes dangerous feeling vibes of their music in my own art.
